Two Australian Citizens About to be Executed in Indonesia
I can't help but feel so sorry for these guys. Despite their wrongs. I like to think that we have progressed as a race, so much so that the countries that enjoy the highest standard of living in this world, have long ago abandoned this barbaric act and have recognised that no judge or politician has the right to take someone else's life.

Coincidentally the very countries that still commit this barbaric draconian act, closely relate their justice systems to some book that was written long ago, and is so open to interpretation that it has become a laughing joke amongst the progressive states, to the like as what we have seen recently.

Will we ever learn that if the death penalty was such a fantastic deterrent then it would have been redundant a 1000 years ago.

Backward punishment from a backward country.

Any prick who bangs on about "They knew the law, they knew the punishment" should fuck off to these scummy lands.

All drugs should be legalised. Personal choice. If you can't see that then fuck off to soe Muslim country.

That piece sounds a bit like smoke & mirrors. As I understand the case, these two people were taking drugs OUT of Indonesia, effectively reducing their availability in-country.

If I was in charge of a country that had excessive supply & demand, I'd regard the tactic of reducing supply by exporting the shit to other nations to deal with as a very patriotic stance.

C+P from The Nation

Indonesia is now facing a drugs and precursor abuse emergency that requires extraordinary measures. Thus, the Indonesian government in exercising its constitutional duty, deems it necessary to impose stern actions within the framework of existing Indonesian laws against drugs related offences which are regarded as one of the most serious crimes.

As a matter of fact, drug related offences pose a very serious threat to the nation as abuse is on the rise. There were 4.5 million cases in 2013 and this number is predicted to rise to 5 million by this year. Currently there are around 4 million narcotics addicts. In addition, the amount of drugs being abused is around 2 tonnes of heroin, 49.5 tonnes crystal meth, 147 million ecstasy pills and 242 tonnes of marijuana. More sadly, an average of 1,500 Indonesian dies every month due to drug-related abuse.

The death penalty has been imposed on anybody, regardless of nationality based on strong legal evidence and through a judicial process. The execution is carried out as a last resort and only after all legal avenues have been exhausted, including requests for a presidential pardon. According the Law No 35/2009 on Narcotics, the death penalty is imposed in accordance with the level of the offence, such as for distributors, producers, and drug lords.

Abbott has always been a dick there's nothing new about his behaviour as PM.

Yes- what the PM said as well! The Aussie girl in my office was disgusted with that tactic.

It's really underhand.

There was no lack of drunken Shanes & Gregs here I can assure you!

What is more perverted was Tim Abbott's 'reminder' of their country's 'friendship' citing the 1 Billion dollars in aid given by Australia to Indonesia at the time of the 2004 tsunami, suggesting he expected reciprocation in form of clemency for the guys about to be executed.

They know the law there. Don't really have any sympathy for them.

What I don't like is the Australian public trying to boycott Indonesia by way of putting pressure on people not to go on holiday there.

This short video shows just how wrong most people's beliefs about drugs are.
